Senior companion clients must:
- Be 60 years of age and older.
- Be homebound.
- Not reside in a group setting such as a long-term care facility.
Senior companion volunteers must:
- Be 60 years of age and older.
- Meet income requirements of up to 200% poverty.
- Have a medical professional verify, prior to assignment and annually thereafter, the volunteer is physically and mentally capable to provide at least 15 hours of service per with week without detriment to the volunteer or client.
- Have satisfactory reference and background check results.
- Commit to providing at least 15 hours of service per week, up to 40 hours.
- Complete not less than 40 hours of orientation and training annually, of which 20 hours must be initial pre-service orientation.
- Accept supervision.
- Provide assistance on a one-to-one basis.
Senior companion volunteers are provided a stipend and other program benefits to provide assistance to senior companion clients.
Individuals records must be:
- In its own individualized file.
- Secured in a locked file cabinet, in a locked area, or in
- A secure computer that requires an access code.
Each visit is one unit of service.
